Description

This project proposes to initiate the tasks that guarantee the correct cataloguing, conservation, digitalisation and dissemination of the audiovisual funds preserved in the private collection of the Basque artist Itziar Okariz (Donostia-San Sebastian, 1965).

These funds include audiovisual materials in various video formats (Hi8, Betacam, Mini DV, among others) generated over three decades of artistic career in the fields of video and performance. In addition to their undoubted patrimonial value, these materials are capable of generating, in dialogue with the artist himself, new creative or curatorial projects.

Through their formative itinerary in Elias Querejeta Zine Eskola, the students involved in the project will apply the specialised knowledge acquired in the subjects of their own Master in Film and Audiovisual Archive to design and implement a plan for the preservation and digitisation of these materials. Also, through the participation of students of the Master's Degree in the Cinematographic and Audiovisual Commissariat, work will be done on the design of public programmes and dissemination strategies aimed at putting the materials of the collection into value and giving them a new meaning through artistic and curatorial practices.

All these tasks will have a specific development and accompaniment in the framework of the subjects available to the project and will be incorporated into the work processes generated by the research project “Trabajar con material: archivos de artista en el contexto vasco” ('Working with material: Artist archives in the Basque context') 2021-2023, co-organised by EQZE and Bulegoa z/b. Students and teachers linked to the project will maintain an active dialogue with Itziar Okariz, ensuring her incorporation into work processes and decision-making.
