Enhancement of the built heritage through the colour of its envelopes: the Ensanche Cortázar y Oriental in San Sebastián

This research proposes creating a prototype of the characteristic colours of San Sebastian's urban expansion area, as a measure needed to protect the colour values of historic buildings and centres in urban renovation processes.

The first outcome will be an inventory of the characteristic colours of the urban expansion area. Specifically, the aim is to define the colours of the different types of existing stone, roofing materials, tiles, joinery, wooden and masonry/concrete/stone balconies, shutters, metal railings, balustrades, balcony fronts and continuous façade cladding (rendering), in order to preserve the built heritage as a whole. The second outcome will be a catalogue of paint colours in the urban expansion area, a more practical, informative document, which will help regulate the tones of those elements on façades that are painted.
