Description

This project pursues the aesthetic and functional redesign aimed at the additive manufacturability of an isometric exercise machine for the elderly. The initiative is aligned with part of the smart specialisation strategy RIS3 Euskadi - PCTI 2030. Specifically, in terms of the priorities of the Basque Country Science, Technology and Innovation Plan 2030 (PCTI Euskadi 2030), the project contributes to the following areas:

a) Health, within health research and innovation, by launching a set of products accessible to anyone, but especially to the people most likely to need them, and

b) Employment and economic reactivation, as it is hoped that the product of the project will be developed entirely in the Basque Country.

The project contributes to responding to other plans, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the priorities of the European Commission.

With regard to the former, it provides answers to SDG number 3 (health and well-being), as it democratises the possibility of exercise for groups with more difficulties in this regard, and SDG 17 (partnerships to achieve the goals), as the project will be developed through partnerships between different agents.

It is based on a fitness machine patented by the members of the project, designed on the basis of functional parts built in a boilermaking workshop. Its high costs and the aesthetics of the functional parts call for it to be redesigned to industrialise it. Therefore, the objective is to study the possibility of aesthetically and technologically redesigning all of the possible functional parts of the aforementioned fitness machine so that they can be manufactured by additive manufacturing (either in plastic or metal, whichever is the most economically and technically appropriate in each case).
